You are no longer invited. Or Why Are We So Afraid of Being Sold To?
I’ve been reflecting on something lately. Why are so many people so afraid of being sold to? Why do we get triggered when someone invites us to an event, shares an opportunity, or presents a product or service with genuine enthusiasm?
After 15 years of hosting my own events, and more than 25 years attending, co-hosting, and selling in various industries from jewellery to coaching to wellness, I’ve realized something fundamental: everything in life is sales.
Without the skill of sales, we can’t truly live a full life. We sell ideas, we sell energy, we sell ourselves, not literally for money, but through the way we present, act, and connect. In love, friendship, parenting, and business, we are constantly communicating value and vision.
My approach to sales has always been simple: I invite with heart. I host, I educate, I show opportunities, but I never push. I never manipulate. I invite because I value you. I want you to come, to have fun, to meet new people, to experience beauty or possibility.
Yet I’ve noticed that sometimes people react as if they are being “sold to.” They withdraw, they feel suspicious. And I understand that now. People see through the lens of their current emotions and experiences. But from my perspective, it’s not a transaction, it’s an act of generosity.
When I invite you, I’m saying, I see you. I think you would enjoy this. I want to share something beautiful or valuable with you.
Maybe our collective discomfort with sales is rooted in old conditioning. I grew up in Eastern Europe, where selling was seen as manipulative or shameful. But today, I know that sales, done right, is love in action. It’s service. It’s energy exchange.
Sales is essential. Without it, no business thrives, no dream expands, no idea reaches the people who need it most.
Right now, I’m inviting people to two events. One is about water, how not all water is equal and how hydration transforms health. The other is a jewellery event, an evening of beauty, sparkle, and connection. I’m not “selling” in the traditional sense. I’m inviting you to come, learn, touch, feel, and experience.
If something resonates, if you fall in love with a piece, or with an idea, then the magic happens naturally.
So next time you feel triggered by being “sold to,” pause and ask yourself: Why am I reacting this way? Maybe it’s not about being pressured. Maybe someone is simply trying to help, to include you, to inspire you.
We can choose to see every invitation as an opportunity for connection, learning, or joy. When we release fear around being sold to, we open ourselves to receiving, and that’s where abundance truly begins.
